Self-discipline is an art of war within home offices. Motivation naturally ebbs and follows throughout the day, so how can you make this quarantine a fruitful stint? Jason Allan Scott provides us with a plethora of domestic strategies to help us capitalize on our most productive periods. Scott shows us how small acts of success can build momentum from lighter to heavier projects. Learn the benefits of solitary tasks in the morning vs. collaborative work in the afternoon! Or how smart laws of motion and eliminating gateways to distractions, can strengthen workflow!
Here are 3 game plans to help you breeze through today’s task list!
1. Get started early
Morning commutes energize us! By the time we arrive at the office, we’re awake and ready for work. However, the at-home transition from pillow to computer can be less invigorating. Begin projects early in the morning to activate all-day progress! Dive into your to-do list as soon as you wake up! Get up, put on a pot of coffee, and start working immediately! Prolonged breakfasts invite morning sluggishness and drain your motivation. Tip: Only eat breakfast after you’ve started to hit a wall and need a break.
2. Pretend you’re going into work
The mental association humans make between work and office makes us more productive. Mirroring office culture at home will kickstart your motivation! Pretend your going to your 9 - 5 and do all the things you would do for the office role! Set your alarm, wear work clothes, restrict your internet browsers so you can’t look at certain things. Dedicate a specific place for work or your bed will call you like sirens call ships to the rocks!
3. Recreate an office calendar!
When working from home you become your own manager. Without things like in-person meetings to break up your day, it’s easy to lose focus or worse, burn out. So stay on schedule! Segment what you’ll do and when you’ll do it over the course of the day. Create an online calendar for personal events. Add reminders on your phone and computer. This will help you shift gears and start new tasks. Use the same schedule whether you’re working in a coworking space or from home. You will complete tasks faster than at work if you create a structure that allows you to be focused and productive. Once times up, take a break. Don’t let the guilt of working in the building you sleep in prevent you from taking 5!
