Many companies are facing unchartered waters when it comes to managing remote teams. Quarantine is the 2020 black swan of business. 90 % of all employees are working remotely due to the pandemic. However, not everyone is sure how to direct teams under such circumstances. Jason Allan Scott gives us the top tips for managing remote employees! Telecommuting is the way of the future! Whether it’s now or after the pandemic, home offices will soon become commonplace! By surveying top professionals from coaching and membership, Scott has gathered the most valuable strategies to make directing remote teams easy!
Here are 3 tips to get started!
1. Create a communication strategy
Managing a productive remote team begins with a communication strategy. Engage regularly! Arrange for the appropriate number of weekly, daily, hourly report-ins. Set guidelines about what the daily needs are. Remember the law of 4: you can only realistically do 3-4 things per day. Try to make sure that everyone knows what their 3 or 4 priorities are. Some people work better with a shopping list of questions and thoughts, while others need you to trickle tasks throughout the day. An understanding of what is urgent will further mitigate all inefficiencies, allowing ultimately for productivity!
2. Make it feel inclusive
It’s easy to relegate remote staff to a secondary consideration. However, this is not possible anymore! Distance can be overcome with virtual meetings and staff partnerships. Use a buddy-buddy system, where each person is accountable to the other one. This allows managers to efficiently look after their virtual staff all over the world, without having to be personally responsible for them! Assign teams with local points of contact, where they can communicate and connect with each other. Think about times, clear steps, expectations, and check-ins through this entire process!
3. Have a reliable “Tools First System”
